Omaha Poker Basics

If you are not new to online poker rooms and have played different variations of this, one of the most exciting games ever, you might have heard of Omaha poker. Online poker rooms offer Omaha poker no deposit games along with other kinds of online poker. Omaha poker is quite a special game, because it’s a very mathematical with easily predictable odds and quite a clear strategy, where players depend on the deal and luck much less than in other kinds of poker. So let’s look at some of Omaha poker basics.

In Omaha poker tournaments 2 to 10 play at one table. A player to the left of the dealer has to call a forced bet – the ‘small blind’, and the player to his left has to place a forced bet – the ‘big blind’. Small blind is half of the big blind and big blind is the lowest betting limit of the game.

When this two bets are made, each player is dealt four cards face down - the ‘hole cards’. The player on the left of the big blind can fold, call or raise the bet. Play continues left until the big blind inclusive. After that three community cards, ‘the flop’, are placed face up. After the second round a fourth community card, the ‘turn’, is placed and following the third round the last community card, the ‘river’ is placed and the last round of betting starts.

When cards are open the pot is split between the best high hand and the best qualifying low hand. If there’s no low hand, the high hand gets the whole pot.
